Dig up your strange nostalgia for the seaside, because Dark Matter’s The Off-Season: An Anthology of Coastal New Weird is out now!

As soon as I saw the call for this anthology, I knew I wanted to concoct something very local for it. I hadn’t been to the seaside in a while, I was already planning to go, and I was really yearning for the liminal space of our Romanian resort towns – thus, “Somewhere between Tomis and Callatis” was born.
It’s weird, it’s unsettling, it’s queer, and it’s as liminal as my little heart desired, and I’d like to thank Marissa van Uden once more for taking a chance on it for this beautiful anthology!
This year was a strange and slow one for writing, but I’m very pleased this story made it exactly where I intended it to go! I really liked working on it in mothball-scented hotel rooms and beside chlorine-scented pools, and thinking about it as I walked around the lily-covered lake in Neptun, as I circled the Capitol in Jupiter, and as I got lost among the hotels of Cap Aurora.
And since I’d gone all the way there for this, I’ve made a local moodboard for you all too!

Hope you’ll love reading this unsettling story as much as I loved writing it!

❤ Just in time for Halloween! Congrats!
